That doesn’t mean that they’re in any way hard to press, just that Suunto has hit the Goldilocks spot in terms of operation.Ī long press on the centre button enters the set-up menus. They have a decent length of travel and need enough force to push in that you won’t change any settings unless you mean to. It’s a cracking screen, and well thought-through. The information shown on the screen varies according to how you set the computer up, and you can also customise the display to your own liking, but it remains intelligible at all times. The Eon Core computer planning screen showing information for a 30m air dive I dived Hodge Close in murky conditions a few years ago and would have dearly loved a computer this easy to read. I could rave about the screen, but let’s just say that it’s colourful, large and supremely easy to read. This will be the first time you get to see the screen in action. The first time you fire the computer up you’ll need to set the time and date and the units, metric or imperial, that you want the computer to use. In use, the display shows remaining dive-time available before you need to recharge the battery at the top left of the screen. The USB end of the cable can plug into a laptop or a dedicated USB charger. It’s held in place magnetically, with the four pins on the charger lined up over the four metal contacts on the computer. To activate, you attach the cable to the back of the computer. It comes in a neat box that also contains a user manual and a USB charger cable. The new Eon Core is effectively a less extreme version of the Eon Steel, and – spoiler alert! – it’s an excellent piece of kit that isn’t overshadowed by its slightly older sibling. And the build quality suggests that you could use it as a club if the scramble for boat places ever got out of hand, and still take it diving. ![]() If I looked up the words “fully featured” in a dictionary I wouldn’t be surprised to see a picture of one in place of a long description. The Eon Steel came out a little while ago. Its products have been pretty much standard issue at various times, and it has always seemed to hit the features/usability/ price-point combination nail firmly on the head, which makes any new Suunto dive computer of more than passing interest. The universal acceptance of computers is one of the most profound changes to sweep the sports-diving world, and Finnish company Suunto has done as much as anybody to encourage that development. In fact, I don’t remember the last time I saw a diver withoutĪt least one computer, even if he or she also had a slate and timer as a last resort. And I include tec and rebreather divers in that sweeping generalisation.

This area is also famous amongst the road biking fraternity as it includes the famous Col d’Izouard made famous by the Tour de France. The region is hugely popular with white water enthusiasts as the Guil is a very challenging “5” rated river when at full flow. This region of the Southern Alps has epic natural beauty topped with fabulous history which is crowned by the Fort Queyras itself. Locationįort Queyras is the centre point of the quaint village of Ville Vieille sitting on the River Guil in the Queyras National Park. It is undoubtedly a fabulous retreat where one can close the main gates and enjoy oneself within the confines of it’s protecting ramparts and towers. This unique property is used as a family home, museum, wedding venue and a historic monument to be admired by the general public in the summer months. Later, the Fort became a holiday camp for children in the 1950’s before returning to civilian life in 1967. These grand modifications where then to prove important as it became a garrison for the Chasseurs Alpine at the beginning of the second world war. The Fort saw major architectural improvements when Vauban came to the region in 1692, improving the defences throughout the whole alpine range and making the fort even more impenetrable. It is also host to The Medieval Festival in mid summer when locals and tourists alike dress up in period costumes and celebrate the castle’s glorious history. There are soldiers barracks, store houses, arms depots, a bakery, hospital, and even a chapel, all of which are open to the public from May to September thanks to the generosity of the current owner. It has a picket fence surrounding the front garden and also has great views of the surrounding landscape. This is a stand alone 4 bedroom house which is completely independent of the rest of the chateau. The cobbled lane leads up to the main courtyard and lawn terrace where the owners have their own private residence. The Fort is a collection of buildings within the surrounding ramparts which are accessed via the main draw-bridge entrance. Does Polyester Stretch When Wet or After Washing? That characteristic is hat makes polyester a good fabric to work with when you do not need a lot of stretch. Other than that polyester on its own will not stretch. To get more of a stretch out of polyester it needs to be blended with stretchable material. Then there is nylon which can 25 to 30% while holding about 2500 pounds. Polypropylene is a form of plastic and not really made for such tough work. In comparison, Polypropylene can stretch up to 50% when carrying a heavy load. That makes it a very useful fabric when webbing is needed for heavy loads. ![]() Polyester is known to stretch between 5 and 15% while under load. How Much Does Polyester Stretch?ĭifferent fabrics tend to stretch in different lengths. That situation may not occur right away unless the materials used were of low quality. Elastine is known to stretch out of shape even when blended with other materials. ![]() That means your clothes should retain their shape. One of the better aspects of elastane is that it will reduce like the polyester fabric it is blended with. With the added stretch blended with polyester, you should feel warmer as well as move any way you want. This added stretch allows clothing manufacturers to make slimmer, skinny clothes that tightly conform to the body. The polyester won’t stretch but the elastane will. Your blended shirts should last a lot longer and remain in good shape so that they can be worn for years. That is good news when that particular clothing item is one of your favorites. With the presence of the polyester, your blended shirt or pants, etc., should not shrink. That is not the only benefit polyester brings to its cotton partner. Not only that it cleans up easier and should not wrinkle. The polyester helps make the cotton more durable. The garment should not stretch out of shape. By that, we mean that the cotton and polyester bend should stretch and reduce as any polyester fabric would. This fabric blend will probably have the polyester dominate the cotton fabric it is blended with. The stretch you get from this blend will depend a lot on what kind of polyester fabric the spandex is blended with. The tricot knit polyester and spandex combination will stretch a long way. Now the knitted polyester and spandex will stretch more than if the garment was made from 100% polyester. With the spandex added you get a little stretch in 2 directions but not as much as will take place when you stretch on the bias. When spandex is added to the polyester fabric, you will get some stretch on the bias. ![]() The design of the polyester fabric already allows for some stretching but not as much as spandex. That flexibility gives you worry-free wear. Then it will rebound back to its original size when you are finished stretching. In other words, when you are doing activities that make you reach to complete them, the polyester fabric should stretch with you. With that in mind, polyester will stretch when you stretch. It is a material that can be used for a variety of clothing items that let you move freely without being embarrassed by its inability to retain its shape. Plus, at the same time, it is designed to not shrink. Polyester is made in such a way that it should not stretch out of shape like cotton might. ![]() Visit for more information.Īll statements other than statements of historical facts contained in this press release are "forward-looking statements," which may often, but not always, be identified by the use of such words as "may," "might," "will," "will likely result," "would," "should," "estimate," "plan," "project," "forecast," "intend," "expect," "anticipate," "believe," "seek," "continue," "target" or the negative of such terms or other similar expressions. Our mission is to produce an eVTOL for real-world applications that provides a safe, efficient and sustainable mode of aerial transport. Our Cavorite X5 eVTOL will enter the market quickly and will service a broad spectrum of early use-cases that will generate revenue immediately. Our unique designs place the mission first and prioritize safety, performance, and utility. This has resulted in industry-leading speed, range, and operational utility. Horizon Aircraft is an advanced aerospace engineering company that has developed the world’s first eVTOL that can fly the majority of its mission exactly like a normal aircraft. Our mission is to make self-flying unmanned and manned vehicles available to anyone, at any time, from anywhere, and to turn this new and exciting aircraft into a mainstream mode of transportation. “The soon-to-be completed acquisition of Horizon is expected to add tremendous value to the combined entity as we move towards the expected commercial launch of the X5 into the growing $46.7 Billion eVTOL aircraft market.”Īstro Aerospace is the developer of the world’s most advanced, autonomous, short haul, eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aerial vehicles. “The testing of the Cavorite X5’s sub-scale prototype has exemplified to the global eVTOL market that Horizon’s engineered design is the new standard,” said Astro CEO Bruce Bent. For vertical flight, the wing surfaces retract to open its ducted fans before closing again, maximizing the craft’s aerodynamic efficiency. The Cavorite X5 features fully autonomous self-learning auto pilot software and an array of specialized 3D-printed lifting fans in the wings that provide additional thrust for vertical takeoff and landing. The primary objective for the sub-scale eVTOL prototype’s test flights is to verify aerodynamics, control systems and transition flight. Astro expects to complete the acquisition of Horizon in April. Astro’s existing roots in the industry and high-calibre expertise, combined with Horizon’s engineering competencies, is expected to position the Company to be one of the leaders in the eVTOL market. On February 18, Astro announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Horizon to accelerate Astro’s Alta and Elroy programs, one of the first modern eVTOL aircraft to fly with people on board. Instead, the consumer is told about a 6″ device which will be offered in late November 2008 and will cost $300. had been touting a sub $200 device that would have a 5” screen, but in a relauch of its ebook reader site ( hat tip to Bev QB), Astak has eliminated any reference to the 5″, sub $200 device. ![]() It may be that the components of an eink reader are so expensive as to not permit a manufacturer from selling a truly entry level eink reader. While I laud Sony for taking a step forward and to offer competition for Amazon, it seems to me that it is missing a vital part of the market. However, to put out single function devices at such as high cost when there are multi fuction devices available at a lower cost, what is the incentive for a person to purchase the single function device? Even those that love to read more than anything balk at paying plus $300 for a device that does only one thing. It’s not that I find it incorrect for manufacturers of ebook readers to put out single function devices. Further, because of the tiny memory footprint on these devices (all have less than 1 GB in memory), the music playing abilities do not transform the eink readers into a multi function device. While all the eink readers have the ability to play music, it’s an afterthought, not an integrated part of the design. As the bottom of the scale is the Nano and the Classic, both of which offer the ability to play videos and music, as well as store photos and games. From the Nano to the iPhone, the rest of the iPod lineup offers more than one functionality. Let me repeat that, “every other portable music player in Apple’s line up is a multi-function device). Every other portable music player in Apple’s lineup is a MULTI FUNCTION DEVICE. It is the iPod Shuffle and it sells for $49. As the iPod has grown and evolved, there is only one single function product left in its lineup. It’s sole goal was to play digital music in a portable fashion. When Apple first introduced a single function device in 2001 called the iPod. Even if we were to peg the ebook readers birth with the release of the eink devices in 2006 with Sony’s first release, the PRS500, why can’t the publishing industry and the corresponding technology industry that overlaps, learn from past market penetration issues. This has been revived as the eBookwise Reader, a grayscale LED that sells for $100-$130. Gemstar launched its ebook reader in 2000. Ebook readers were first developed in 1991 when Sony introduced the Sony Data Discman. I know that e-ink readers are in their early stages but ebook readers are not. The longer that I pay attention to the publishing market, the more convinced I am that cost is hugely important, particularly when you are selling a single function device. ![]() There is no real entry level ebook reader. What’s consistent about all these eink ebook readers? The price. IRex introduced its newest model and instead of being smaller and less expensive than its original, its larger and more expensive at 10.2″ for the screen and $799 for the price. The Cybook has a 6″ eink screen and sells for $369.00. The Kindle has a 6″ eink screen, a keyboard, and cellular access to the internet and sells for $399. The PRS700 has a 6″ eink touch screen and integrated front light and sells for $399. The PRS505 has a 6″ eink screen and sells for $299.
